Austria - Zell am See |
Zell am See is a charming lakeside medieval town just over an hour's transfer from Salzburg (or 3 hours from Munich). The Lake provides an amazing backdrop both when walking around town and while skiing the Schmittenhohe mountain.
Schmittenhohe has over 75km of runs of mixed level with particular appeal to beginners and intermediates. Experts can find a few black runs as well as some off-piste. The more challenging off-piste can be found at the nearby Kitzsteinhorn Glacier or Saalbach - both within easy distance by bus or taxi.
There are dozens of great restaurants and bars on the mountain. Apres-Ski options are also aplenty. The town itself has a choice of options for nightlife including the legendary Villa Crazy Daisy and the more intimate Insider.
Due to the recent addition of the Trans-Express gondola, queues are a rarity and ski routes more varied.
